Victoria Falls

The Zambezi River dramatically defines the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, reaching its most spectacular point at Victoria Falls. Here, the river plunges over a dramatic 108 meters (355 feet) cliff face, creating a breathtaking spectacle of cascading water and mist.

It is possible to visit the falls from either country, although the best spectacle is from the national park on the Zimbabwean side. It is easy to cross the border using the famous iron bridge, the same bridge where daring or fearless adrenaline seekers take the 111m plunge on one of the most exotic bungee jumps in the world.

Several other adventurous exploits are available here. The exhilarating zip line over the gorge is exciting and the thrill of white-water rafting through the Zambezi’s wild rapids below is perhaps the most famous activity. Helicopter or microlite flights over the falls offer the opposite perspective. Upstream of the falls and also on Zambian side a serene sunset cruise along calmer stretches of the river, watching hippos surface and grunt is a perfect end to the day. Game viewing away from the river is also good here. Elephants, buffalo, giraffe, kudu, zebra, impala, and other species are frequently seen, including predators.

The Victoria Falls area contrasts wonderfully with the activities we do on safari. The fact that there is an international airport on each side of the river make this a convenient travel hub to and from there to Botswana, Ethiopia, Namibia, Kenya, South Africa, and the rest of the world.
