Seasonal Bush Camps

In remote areas of central and southern Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe seasonal bush camps are re-built after the rains, usually at the end of May, ready to open in June. They are often built of a combination of tentage and grass thatch. They remain open until the rains begin in earnest, sometime between December and March.

The design of these camps varies, but they all have a combination of covered shade and open communal area where there will be a bar, lounge and dining areas. Most of these camps do not have a swimming pool. Most, but not all, seasonal bush camps have WIFI.

The accommodation areas are either canvas tents or chalets built of thatch, or other available materials. Each usually sleeps two people with either a double bed or two singles. There is a bathroom area with a washbasin, toilet and an indoor or outdoor shower, usually with some basic form of plumbed water system with hot and cold water. Some camps have one family unit which is basically two rooms or tents positioned adjoining each other, or a unit with two rooms sleeping up to 2 adults and 2 or sometimes 3 children.

Simplicity is the aim. The cuisine is usually good home cooking, with fresh ingredients, and the bar is stocked with ice and invariably has excellent views!

If you wish to experience the bush far from civilization and the bustle of other tourists, this is one of the best kinds of camps you can choose.
